Pakistan, a high context and relationship-oriented country is big on hierarchy. As a result it is perceived that out of respect it is not recommended to make frequent eye contact with Pakistanis during a meeting. If done one might come off as rude. As someone originally from Pakistan I feel as if this is mostly true for Pakistanis dealing with subordinates who are also Pakistani. If a foreigner would make continuous eye contact in a meeting I don’t think it would be taken negatively. Anyone care to comment?
