Changes in Japanese Negotiation Practices?

Jun 15, 08 Posted in Japan

The Japanese companies are known for being very ethnocentric even in their overseas operations. However, as Japan is getting more competition from rest of the Asian countries, I feel that they are opening up to Western practices and styles of business. Are there any observed changes in Japanese negotiation practices recently due to the globalization of business and industry?

In response to Mika’s comments, I believe that the globalization of business and industry may affect Japan’s younger generation on a cultural level. This resultant change to the younger generation will trickle into Japanese companies as the younger generation of Japan begin to ascend the corporate ladder. As they advance, the western influence that they were exposed to at a younger age may influence and evolve the Japanese negotiation style and company culture.

Such a change will take time and a new generation….
