Cuba and Global Negotiations

Jan 21, 09 Posted in Cuba

As the Obama Administration extends its hand out to the various nations of the world, some of us hope that it will do so to Cuba.  US / Cuba relations are at a crossroad once again.  Barack Obama has made several statements declaring his desire to change the present situation.  It is our intention to explore this neighbor just 90 miles to the south by beginning to understand, perhaps for the first time, in a systematic, theoretical as well as practical way, the means by which Cuba negotiates.

You will note that on this website, we have 50 countries represented.  In each we have at least a cursory explanation of the negotiation techniques and styles of the particular country, in some, a very extensive review.  There is no entry for Cuba.

Consider that in relative isolation, in part because of the embargo and the various restricting regulations, the economic hardships, and leadership, Cuba has not been able to fully participate within the international economic system.  Over the next few weeks and months, we will be submitting the beginnings of the Cuba Negotiation Techniques and we request your assistance.

With this blog entry, I invite any and all who have worked, will work, understand or study Cuba to provide a central point for commentary.  It is our sincere hope, that through a collaborative engagement with you, we will begin to understand better that “pearl of the Antillies”.  As relations begin to thaw, we hope this will be one of the resources those interacting with Cuba will utilize.
